Ayer Cultural Council Weighs Eight-Visit Science Program for Local Students

AYER — June 20, 2019 — Ayer Cultural Council debates science education funding with just $32 left in unallocated town funds. At the June 20 meeting, members discussed a proposal to fund either four or eight school program visits focused on science, a subject area members said current council-funded programs lack. With roughly $5,500 in town funds committed and a $300 allocation already set aside for the initiative, only about $32 remained unallocated. Members favored the eight-visit option at an estimated cost of $2,600, saying it would expand the number of student groups reached and the range of topics covered. The council also briefly discussed internal structure, including the potential appointment of a co-chair and treasurer, and reviewed reimbursement procedures for funded program providers.
