Capital Planning Committee defers capital recommendations to February meeting

AYER — The Ayer Capital Planning Committee postponed formal recommendations on its FY 2027 capital plan to February 4, deciding to schedule separate meetings with the Fire Chief and Parks Commission representatives. Parks Director Sarah Ernst requested $49,000 for a truck replacement and presented a $1.2 million placeholder for construction of a new Sandy Pond Beach House built in 1946, though committee member James B. Pinard Jr. suggested targeting $800,000 for the project.
Department of Public Works Director Dan Van Schalkwyk reported a definitive $120,000 cost for water security improvements while deferring replacements of a water backhoe, hydropneumatic drill, and one-ton pickup truck. The committee commended the DPW's capital planning efforts and will reconvene to finalize recommendations after meeting with additional department heads.
