Committee Hears Developer Proposals for Fire Station Conversion and Fitchburg Road Affordable Housing

Ayer Affordable Housing Committee discusses downtown fire station conversion and 106-unit development. Mark Gallagher of Seal Harbor Companies presented plans to convert the old Ayer Fire House at 14 Washington Street into eight rental units with one designated as affordable; Committee Chair Janet K. Providakes and members urged exploration of a second affordable unit to benefit the town's housing objectives.
The committee also heard an update on the NOAH/Ayer Commons project at 65 Fitchburg Road, where $4 million in HUD funding has been earmarked to support a planned 106-unit affordable residential development. The Ayer Housing Trust will seek $212,000 in CPC funding for infrastructure improvements at a hearing scheduled for March 4.
