Community Preservation Committee · Meeting of August 5, 2026
AYER — The Ayer Community Preservation Committee discussed a preliminary application for a shade structure at the Ayer Dog Park. Chair Janet K. Providakes and Vice Chair Julie Murray reviewed DPW Director Dan Van Schalkwyk's proposal, which includes two options: an inexpensive fabric covering or a permanent steel structure estimated at $50,000.
The dog park, built in 2018 with $20,000 in CPC funds, has lost trees and received user complaints about inadequate shade. The committee expressed support, with a final proposal vote scheduled for September 2nd, a public hearing in October, and Spring 2027 construction anticipated. Over $1 million is available from the committee's Open Space and Recreation fund.
