AYER — Finance Committee discusses $1M+ FY 2027 shortfall amid health insurance surge. Town Manager Robert Pontbriand told the panel that a potential gap exceeding $1 million looms due to anticipated 20 to 25 percent health insurance cost increases and double-digit growth in the regional school assessment, though he expressed confidence the final budget will hold at or below the target 5 percent increase. Chair Kurt Fraczkowski reported on a ten-year Water and Sewer projection showing sewer fund health improving over five to ten years but water revenues under pressure from PFAS remediation costs; Vice Chair Andrew Sealey suggested using retained earnings to avoid steep rate hikes.
The committee will revisit free cash allocation, expected at $2.9 million, on January 29.
