AYER — Finance Committee reviews Fire Department FY27 budget amid hospital closure pressures. Fire Chief Timothy Johnston and Deputy Fire Chief Jeremy Januskewicz reported 3,356 total calls in 2025, with over 2,100 classified as Rescue/EMS, and proposed to increase the Ambulance Reserve Fund. Both current ambulances have exceeded 100,000 miles.
The department plans to deploy $845,000 in state hospital-closure impact funds toward a daytime-shift staffing position of two additional EMS staff, payroll software, uniforms, and supplies. Chief Johnston stated the positions will not be paid from state impact funds or town budget.
