Select Board approves sewer project change order; eyes $2.9M free cash allocation

Select Board · Meeting of February 3, 2026

AYER — Select Board approves sewer work change order and charts $2.9M free cash allocation. The board unanimously backed Change Order No. 2 for the FY 26 Sewer System Rehabilitation Project, which adds inspection of a downtown sewer force main and extends contract timelines 100 days. Town Manager Robert A.

Pontbriand recommended splitting the certified $2.9 million in free cash across reserves including $1 million to Capital Stabilization, $620,680 to Stabilization, $500,000 for Senior Center costs, and $346,830 to pay down three BAN projects. In a joint Finance Committee session, Dr. Adam Renda, Superintendent of Schools, presented the FY 27 Ayer Shirley Regional School District preliminary budget requiring $11,283,655 in local contribution at an 11.9 percent assessment, the highest Ayer has seen, driven by declining state Chapter 70 aid and 88-student enrollment loss.
