AYER -- June 4, 2026, Ayer Finance Committee approves $74,926 in year-end reserve fund transfers across three departments. The committee voted unanimously Thursday to approve transfers of $40,000 to the IT department, $32,000 to the assessor's department, and $2,926.32 to the treasurer's office, drawing from a $150,000 FY26 reserve fund that had not previously been touched. The IT transfer covers costs from a mid-year upgrade from IT coordinator to IT manager, a switch to consulting firm World Band after the prior vendor underperformed, mandatory dot-gov email conversions for police and fire, cloud data migration, and emergency fire-station wiring after Verizon announced copper line discontinuation. The assessor's transfer covers specialty appraisals for two pending Appellate Tax Board cases, including one involving the town's vacant former hospital, and parallel operation of old and new Vision assessment software during a state certification year. The smallest transfer, $2,926.32, reimburses interest at the statutory 8 percent rate on two settled abatement refunds, with one case accruing interest over roughly 457 days. Town officials stated no further reserve fund transfers are expected before the fiscal year closes June 30.
