Ayer Library Board Appoints New Trustee, Agrees on Monthly Financial Reports

AYER — October 15, 2020 — Ayer Library Board appoints new trustee and settles a months-long dispute over bill oversight. The board voted unanimously at its October 15 virtual meeting to seat Lindy Joseph as a trustee to serve until the next town election, after a brief delay when Joseph joined the meeting late due to a technical problem. The board also elevated longtime member Becky Campana to lifetime trustee status. After a heated back-and-forth between trustees and Library Director Tim Silva — who called physical trustee sign-off on bills "micromanaging, quite frankly" — the board agreed that Silva will include a detailed Munis expenditure report in his monthly director's report going forward. Trustee Sue Kennedy reported that the library's nonprofit status review is ongoing, with a CPA meeting set for the following Tuesday and an invitation being extended to town treasurer Barbara Tierney to explain a potential umbrella arrangement using the town's tax identification number. The library's public computer terminals remain closed, with no firm reopening date set.
