Council on Aging · Meeting of August 11, 2026

AYER — The Ayer Council on Aging Board voted to recommend Miah Travaglini fill its vacant seat and re-elected Mary Markham as chair. Director Katie Petrossi reported the senior center served 658 people nearly 15,000 times in fiscal 2026 and warned the building will close roughly two weeks in September, longer than planned, because of Housing Authority repaving. Member Dennis Curran argued seniors "should not have to bear the cost of the housing authority's construction schedule." Marge Withee was elected clerk, replacing Curran.

The board also weighed asking the Select Board to expand from five to seven or nine members, with 14 general contractors and over 100 subcontractors already pre-qualifying to bid on the new senior center building.
