Ayer Assessors Approve $1.2 Million Excise Warrant, Four Tax Exemptions

Ayer Board of Assessors approves $1.2 million motor vehicle excise commitment and four new statutory exemptions. The board voted unanimously at its February 25 remote meeting to approve motor vehicle excise Commitment 1 of 2026 valued at $1,210,341.73, along with two smaller 2025 warrants totaling $36,691.60 and a January abatement report covering four abatements at $633.50. The board also approved fiscal year 2026 statutory exemptions for four residents — Amanda Lewis (17D surviving spouse), Mary McDowell (41C elderly), Rachel Redfern (class 22 veteran), and Patricia Lions (legally blind and circuit-breaker) — all of whom staff said had been vetted and met state qualifications.

In a brief old-business update, staff said the office's migration from its legacy IAS assessing platform to a new Vision system will run both programs in parallel through fiscal year 2027, with Vision set to go live as the sole system in January 2028.
