Ayer Assessors Approve $16.7 Million in Preliminary Fiscal 2027 Tax Commitments

AYER — July 1, 2026 — Ayer Board of Assessors approves $16.7 million in preliminary fiscal 2027 property tax commitments. Meeting remotely on July 1, the three-member board unanimously authorized the town collector to bill on preliminary fiscal year 2027 assessments covering $13,832,462.59 in real estate taxes for residential, commercial, and industrial properties, $413,489 in Community Preservation Act assessments, and $2,462,993.85 in personal property taxes. The board also approved 33 motor vehicle abatements totaling $4,948.40 for June. The assessor reported that a parallel side-by-side data review between Ayer's legacy system and the incoming Vision CAMA platform is ongoing, with apartment building classification errors under correction and the town's 2025 sales data already loaded for valuation review — with a goal of running actual FY2027 commitments from Vision by end of summer. A board seat vacancy has drawn only one informal expression of interest, from Amanda Lewis, the town's payroll and benefits coordinator, pending a conflict-of-interest review.
