Ayer Assessors Approve $78,489 Excise Warrant and Two Months of Abatements

AYER — June 1, 2026 — Ayer Board of Assessors approves $78,489 motor vehicle excise warrant and two months of abatements. Meeting with only two members present due to a vacant third seat, the board on June 1 approved 314 motor vehicle excise bills totaling $78,489.14 for its third commitment of 2026, scheduled for mailing June 2. The board also signed off on combined April and May abatement reports covering 64 bills and reducing collectible excise revenue by $14,367.34. Staff reported the assessing office has gone live on the Vision property assessment platform with locked values and will begin a parcel-by-parcel data review this week ahead of seeking Department of Local Services certification. The board adjusted its regular meeting time from 2 p.m. to 11 a.m. on Wednesdays after new member Bill, a practicing attorney, noted that 2 p.m. court conflicts could repeatedly force last-minute rescheduling, and set its next meeting for July 1, 2026 at 11 a.m.
