Ayer Library Director Earns Mixed Review; Board Demands Strategic Plan Progress

AYER — August 20, 2020 — Ayer Library Board rates director "meets expectations" and demands strategic plan. The Board of Trustees gave Library Director Timothy Silver an overall "meets expectations" rating at its August 20 Zoom meeting, with the board of trustee relationship category marked "needs improvement." Trustee Deborah Faust-Clancy, who compiled individual evaluations submitted separately by each board member, said a strategic plan and reinstatement of the library's lapsed 501(c)(3) nonprofit status — unfiled with the IRS since roughly 2011 — emerged as the board's top stated priorities for the coming year, with one evaluator noting that "nothing has been done, not even a survey." The board separately praised Silver's work securing a roughly $17,000 Community Development Block Grant for Wi-Fi hotspot devices, representing 90 percent of the amount requested, and approved minutes, the treasurer's report, and the director's report unanimously. New treasurer Susan Kennedy was asked to contact town accountant Lisa Cabrera to obtain records needed to restore the library's nonprofit filing.
