Other Committee · Meeting of August 5, 2026

Ayer's Community Preservation Committee previewed a roughly $50,000 shade structure plan for the town's dog park. Department of Public Works representative Dan told the committee four large trees, including 24-inch maples and an oak, have died since the park's 2018 construction, which used $20,000 in Community Preservation Act funds and a $200,000 grant from the Stanton Foundation. The original design included a shade structure as a bid alternate that went unbuilt for lack of funds; Dan is now comparing fabric and permanent steel options priced through the state's Operational Services Division contract.

Member Julie asked whether the 2018 plans specified a permanent structure, and a member noted the project would draw from an Open Space and Recreation account holding "over a million dollars." The committee voted 4-0 to approve its agenda and continued the shade-structure item to its September 2 meeting, ahead of a possible fall Town Meeting warrant article.
