AYER — September 23, 2025 — Ayer's Rate Review Committee narrowed transfer station fee options to two scenarios at its September 23 meeting, ahead of a formal public hearing. Staff presented a memo showing the FY26 solid waste budget at roughly $573,000, with $294,628 needing to come from permit sticker and bag sales after a tax levy subsidy of $249,783. Under the scenario favored in discussion, regular and senior permit stickers would each rise $2.25 and pay-per-throw bag prices would increase 50 cents, producing an estimated $5,200 surplus; a second option would raise all permit categories by $3.35 with no bag change, yielding about $1,780 in the black. A member of the public attending via Zoom urged the committee to raise permit fees only, arguing bag prices "are what's keeping people away." The committee voted unanimously to approve amended minutes from its September 9 session and scheduled its next working meeting for October 14 at 4 p.m.
