AYER — The Ayer Senior Center Building Committee approved a list of nine pre-qualified general contractors and $105,807.15 in project invoices at its August 20 meeting. A project team member identified as Ken reported the state issued an environmental certificate August 14, keeping MEPA and MESA review on track with no delays. A pre-qualification subcommittee member, Matt, said 130 firms applied across all trades, with five of 14 general contractors rejected for insufficient "similar project" experience on the roughly $11.5 million job or for failing to submit required audited financial statements: "It becomes a different animal at, you know, an eight to nine million dollar project versus a three to four million dollar project." Members also voted to prioritize an emergency generator and operable partition wall as the first two construction add-alternates, ranking pickleball courts third and a stone veneer exterior detail fourth.
Bidding is expected to open around September 23, with contract award targeted near November 1.
