Ayer conservation board OKs Fitchburg Road permit
Conservation · Meeting of September 10, 2026
Ayer Conservation Commission approves Fitchburg Road wetlands permit, pushes culvert hearing to September 24. Chaired by Jessica Gino, the five-member board voted unanimously to approve a Notice of Intent and issue an Order of Conditions for a residential development at 65 Fitchburg Road, after BSC Group's Matt Byrne and Joe White defended a 19-test-pit stormwater study that the state Department of Environmental Protection flagged as insufficiently targeted. "I don't think that we're going to find a whole lot different with number 20 and 21," White said.
Separately, Town Engineer Matt Hernon and project engineer Maria Johnson-Burke described a 22-foot-wide replacement culvert on Groton School Road, up from 8 feet, targeting 2028 construction; the hearing continues September 24. Conservation Agent Heather Hampson also previewed a proposed tree bylaw with a $100-per-inch mitigation fee, headed to an October 26 Town Meeting vote.
