AYER — The Ayer Conservation Commission opened a hearing on a 106-unit Fitchburg Road housing project and continued it to August 27. Civil engineer Joe White and ecologist Matt Byrne of BSC Group outlined plans for six buildings, 158 total parking spaces, and 13,163 square feet of impervious work in the property's wetland buffer zone, about 10.6 percent of the total buffer area. The commission scheduled a site walk for August 29 and took only a non-binding straw vote on a requested bylaw waiver, deferring a formal vote until after seeing the site.

Conservation Agent Heather Hampson said she wants stormwater signage added after "a phone call today from a resident over on Sunflower Port" who didn't realize storm drains flow to wetlands. Byrne told members "is there estimated habitat on the site? The answer is no," clarifying the project avoids triggering rare-species review under the Wetlands Protection Act.

Separately, Affordable Housing Committee member Janet Providekas previewed the town's September 29 housing forum.
